The number one rule of business is never change your internal processes and procedures to fit your IT systems. Change the IT systems instead. We appreciate that maxim, and understand that whilst when developing dProjectOffice we tried to cover all the bases, its functionality may not exactly match your organisation's methods.
There are four strategies for you should you decide to remodel dProjectOffice to fit your organisation.
Option 1: Modify the Source Code Yourself
dProjectOffice is distributed in source code format, so providing you have the relevant IT skills at your disposal, you can modify / extend the product to your heart's content. From our perspective, this is obviously the least desirable option, and it probably will be from your perspective too. If you do decide to go down this route, we can only offer support on a best endeavours basis, and only on the unmodified code. We can offer zero support on all interfaces to your code, and any new code you add. In addition, you will encounter problems incorporating new official releases into your own modified code and we will not be able to offer any asistance.
Option 2: Suggest New Features on the Forum
We would like to foster a community spirit and you are encouraged to contribute. Suggesting new features or modifications on the forum gives other users opportunity to comment. Providing the suggestions are agreed by the consensus, and they fit with the overall strategy of dProjectOffice, the suggestions will be scheduled for development.
Option 3: Commission Features from Us
We cannot guarantee when new features will be developed under option 2. For an expedient solution, we can accept commissions to tailor dProjectOffice, again subject to those new features being in line with the overall strategy of dProjectOffice. Refer to the Consultancy Rate A (end users only) and drop us a line with your requirements.
Option 4: Commission Non-Strategic Features from Us
There may be instances when you require modifications which are very specific to your organisation, and we cannot consider them strategic. We can still provide a consultancy service for you, using Consultancy Rate B (end users only). The fees are more expensive because of the nature of the work - we would provide a dedicated development branch for your organisation which would require its own testing cycles and maintenance updates. Drop us a line with your requirements and we can discuss further.
